Context: Navigating the DriverReach Sunset
When news broke in April that DriverReach would sunset, Nussbaum Transportation—a 530-truck fleet based in Illinois—found themselves at an unexpected crossroads. The company had been an early DriverReach adopter dating back to 2019 and had built a strong relationship with the team behind the product.
“We were very content,” said Joe Anderson, Director of Recruiting at Nussbaum. “We helped shape their product with some of our feedback, and we just knew the team well.”
But with three full-time hiring managers (plus Joe) responsible for 8–10 accepted offers in a strong week, the stakes were high. They needed a new solution that would allow them to maintain their hiring numbers—without disruption, downtime, or adding more staff.
Why Nussbaum Chose Double Nickel
After conversations with five or six vendors—including the option to simply default to Tenstreet—Nussbaum found what they were looking for in Double Nickel.
“Double Nickel right off the bat felt like the right fit” Joe said. “Just in the conversations with Fran and Elif—there was a down-to-earth feel. And we really liked the product from the get-go.”
Nussbaum highlighted several key reasons behind their decision:
🔸 A Driver-Friendly Application
Putting themselves in the driver’s shoes, the team immediately noticed Double Nickel’s ease of use.
“The application just seemed very logical and smooth. Drivers can complete it pretty easily.”
🔸 A Clean & Intuitive User Experience
The simplicity of the UI/UX stood out:
“The easier the system is, the less likely there is user error. We don’t hear driver issues anymore.”
🔸 A Partner, Not a Vendor
Nussbaum doesn’t choose technology lightly—because they don’t want to switch often.
“We look at it as a partnership. We don’t want to switch again. We want it to be long-haul.”
Early conversations made it clear Double Nickel shared that mindset.
Impact: Higher Output With a Smaller Team
One of the biggest surprises came from the team’s efficiency gains. After moving from three recruiters down to two, Nussbaum feared a drop in hiring volume.
The opposite happened.
Before switching, Nussbaum averaged 5.85 accepted offers per week.
After adopting Double Nickel, they averaged 6.4 per week—with one fewer recruiter.
Joe summarized it simply:
“The individual recruiter output went up like 50%. That’s huge.”
The AI Recruiter: A Game-Changing Shift
Nussbaum initially hesitated about the AI recruiter feature. Joe was even skeptical:
“I almost just wanted Double Nickel without the AI recruiter. What are drivers going to think?”
But once implemented, the impact became undeniable.
Recruiters now walk in each morning to:
Pre-screened applicants
Scheduled interviews
Drivers who are expecting the call
Before, leads might have sat cold for 12 hours. Today, the team starts their day already in motion.
“We’ve had great success with drivers actually answering the phone for those interviews. It’s been huge.”
Driver Experience: Smooth, Simple & Error-Free
One of Nussbaum’s biggest priorities was ensuring the experience improved—not just for recruiters, but for drivers.
With DriverReach, they occasionally saw drivers stuck on fields or confused about next steps.
With Double Nickel?
“I don’t hear any issues anymore. It just doesn’t come up.”
The application is simple, intuitive, and easy to update if a driver needs help.
“Very simple, very logical how to do that.”
The fewer the hurdles, the faster (and happier) the hires.
Responsive Partnership & Customer Service
Nussbaum threw a lot at Double Nickel during onboarding—and they admit it openly.
“We have thrown a lot at Double Nickel, and that’s an understatement.”
What stood out most was the responsiveness and willingness to solve root problems rather than patch symptoms.
“You can tell there’s real care to figure out what we’re trying to solve. We feel heard.”
Coming from a product they already loved, the bar was extremely high.
Double Nickel not only met expectations—Nussbaum says it exceeded them.
Would They Recommend Double Nickel?
Joe doesn’t hesitate:
⭐ “I would 100% recommend Double Nickel.”
His only regret? Being skeptical of the AI recruiter at first.
“AI recruiter ended up being a huge part of what saved us. If someone leaves and you can’t replace them, this is the way to do it.”
For fleets wanting to grow without adding more staff—or protect themselves from turnover—Joe sees Double Nickel as an obvious choice.
“It increases the productivity of your personnel. It’s been huge for us.”
